Resume is the first interaction between you and the employer. It is your first impression over the selector. It is barely a 30 seconds of trailer from your whole career life. It is a few paragraph synopses of your past where your future will be at stake.

Resume is not just about your education qualification, certification, honors and experience instead, it is about what have you achieved so far and why will you be the right fit for the new employer.

Let’s take an example and understand why is it so important to have a right format with right content and right design resume with you prior to applying for any new opportunities.

Recently I have appeared for an interview, the interviewer didn’t get a chance to go through my resume and asked me to walk him through. Fine, while walking him through my resume, he was yawning and I got the impression that he might be feeling sleepy. Never mind, I had no option but to continue. At the end, there were few questions and the interview was over. I was not selected.

There might be many possible causes of this rejection, which I don’t know, however I am sure that one major cause was my 5 pages long resume.

Well, while writing a resume from a candidate point of view, I was trying to put everything what I know, what I have done and what I have achieved. I have tried to touch every corner, which had probable developed a novel instead of a sticky note and now a day’s people are more interested over the headlines instead of the whole 9 yards’ story.

There are many other possible reasons for rejection, however the first one will always be the resume.

This may not be true for few of the interviewer or selectors, however trend is moving towards one liner and short stories about success, achievement and eye catching formats.

To conclude, I believe if we need to survive (to be a part of our choice employer) then we have to follow the Darwin’s Theory of Evolution by Natural Selection here as well.
