Ever thought about hiring cost to the company?

General perception is that an applicant is the one who is bearing the cost of being interviewed and get hired to any organization. The applicant think that he/she is the one who spent money to reach to the interview venue, spent time, while waiting to get interviewed and remain patient during the interview session. Once the applicant through from all the processes and get rejected, he/she thinks that this is the interviewer who had rejected him/her otherwise they were capable enough to handle the challenges.

Being an applicant many of us will agreed with the rejected applicant’s thought. Some of us might think that they are better than this applicant until they get rejected by the interviewer and few will say, why have they called us if they don’t want to hire us?

Before we go further, let’s see what a third person’s thought over this situation;

  • Are companies or organizations are doing these interviews just for the sack of fun or they really want to hire someone?
  • Are companies having so much of free time to play hiring game?
  • Do they deliberately reject candidates?
  • They don’t want to hire a candidate until the reject many?
  • They don’t want to pay
  • They have ample amount of time

Now let’s see the other picture from the organization prospective. Organization want the hiring process should be as follows;

  1. Applicant applied for the opportunity in a company
  2. HR shortlists the application
  3. HR inquires about the shortlisted candidate
    1. HR finds Green data
      1. HR schedules the interview
    1. In case HR finds Black data
      1. HR will continue with other applications
  4. Selected candidates deployed to the resource pool.

Are the organizations spending money on these interviews?

Let’s take an example;

  • Suppose, Saatpro Group has vacancy of 15 Java developers, for its collaborating company C9Software pvt. Ltd.
  • HR has posted the vacancy’s information to various job portals and received 458 applications for this position.
  • Company HR has shortlisted 57 candidates for the interview

As per the process, total 4 rounds of interviews will be conducted for this position;

  1. HR round (25 minutes) – Cost Rs.200
  2. Technical round (35 minutes) – Cost Rs.800
  3. Manager round (15 minutes) – Cost Rs.1000
  4. Salary negotiation (25 minutes) – Cost Rs.200
  5. Total time and cost spend over one selected candidate will be approx. 100 minutes which costs approx. Rs.2200
  6. Total cost over 15 candidates – Rs.33000
  7. Training cost– Rs.10,00,000
  8. Approx. cost spent over remaining 42 applicants – Rs. 60,000
  9. Company will spend from Rs.1000 to Rs. 10,000 for every 15 selected candidates for the BGC followed by spending 10 to 20 more working days. Total cost – Rs.1,50,000

In case of Black BGC, company will be losing precious time, money and opportunity as the whole process takes almost 2 months to get it completed.

Imagine if the hiring organization gets the right candidate in first interview itself, well in that case an organization will save this expenditure and convert it into profit.

To conclude;

  • Organizations want to get the right candidate in the first slot
  • Interviewers are there to select the right candidate but not to reject
  • Interview sessions are not free for organizations; they had pay a hefty cost of it

Think these before concurring an interview.

Hope you agree?

Cheers!

What is the definition of Being Young?

Most of the time, a person who is between 15 to 40 years of age, considered as young person. If the same person doesn’t behave well or not take right decision, then the same person is called immature.

If a person who is between 41 to 55 years of age says that he is young, people sometimes not ready to digest it, at the same time if he is active and great in looks, some of us agrees with him

What about those who eventually cross 56 years’ line? Well they are simply become a part of senior citizen. However even crossing 60 or 70 years of age, there are so many examples who are still active and doing what they love to do and achieving, what they want to achieve or what they haven’t achieve so far, even when they were young.

For example: Debbie Harry, Grandma Moses, Harland Sanders, Harriette Thompson, Jacinto Bonilla, Johanna Quaas, Nola Ochs, Fred Mack, Khushwant Singh, Amitabh Bacchan, Fauja Singh, Judi Dench and on and on. The list is long with such people across the globe.

There are many career, where seniors are considered more reliable, such as doctors, lawyers, business man etc.

Mr. Henry Ford once said,

“Anyone who stops learning is old, whether at twenty or eighty. Anyone who keeps learning stays young. The greatest thing in life is to keep your mind young.”

I think if your heart is young then age are just the numbers! Do you agree?

Budget & Requirement

Interesting heading, isn’t it? You got right where I am going.

Being from the IT world, it is a very common and well known scenario for me. Clients has their own assumptions and knowledge, based on that, they used to plan for the budget. Post deciding the budget sometimes clients do research a bit more however once they make up their mind and finalize the budget, it is hard to get it changed.

Lets talk the other side of the coin.

As soon as the client interact the vendor or the service provider about the requirement, the marketing technique, greed and brand name comes first in picture then other things, such as security, optimization, duration etc.

So during the requirement gathering, vendor helps their client by providing various of options, be it less or more useful for client. Till this stage all the conversation goes happily and both parties respond, talk to each other frequently until the cost presented to the client.

Dramatic factor suddenly makes the client to ignore the marketing team member of the vendor or if the budget matches with client’s budget then suddenly time crunch comes in picture, which forces the marketing team to complete the project ASAP.

In both the cases the pressure further passes to the developers or workers, their incentives, salary hike, working hours etc. for them if the project allocated to them then load of work and if the project doesn’t allocate then loosing job issue.

Getting back to the point Requirement and Budget, in some cases smart client used to exploit the vendor and in some cases vendors and their marketing team play smartly with the vendor.

Apart from all that, most of the time the vendors are actually providing right suggestions to the client and not ready to compromise the quality or brand name of themselves.

Only in this scenario, when both gets on the same page the desirable and quality results are achievable.

Hope you agree, don’t you?

Cheers!

Training Sessions

Training, a very common word as well as very engaged word.

Today’s world is full with content and those who are part of today are very lucky in terms of getting all most all sort of trainings whatever they need and where ever they need.

It’s all together a different thing that personal training via an individual person or trainer can make more impact rather than an automated training session. The good part is that at least we have what we need and it totally depend on individual to individual how will s/he grab it.

We have also organized few training sessions in the past for non-corporate world and it was a challenge and fun with in.

Usually, when we have live training session, (here LIVE means not online but physical availability in the training centers) we simultaneously had to manage a lot of thing.

The key areas are as follows;

  1. Get ourselves ready to share the training contents
  2. Rehearse prior to appear
  3. Maintain the physical appearance
  4. Clear the throat
  5. Lose all the tensions, health issues and most difficult one is the smart phone
  6. Be patient
  7. Be calm
  8. Be a mentor
  9. Pay full attention to every trainee
  10. Get all of them to the equal platform
  11. Avoid irrelevant discussions
  12. Revolving around the topic
  13. Maintain the decorum
  14. Share all the possible knowledge and experience

Sometimes it become easy and a few times it become a challenge.

This short video will share the thoughts a trainer might have while getting engage in the training sessions

Find Your Hidden Skills

Everyone born with a set of skills, some of us have unique skills and many of us have some unacknowledged or hidden skills.

How do I know what special skills do I have? This question makes us confuse about our own capabilities.

The illusion is that we know everything about ourselves, however the truth is that many of us doesn’t even know who they are and how important they could be.

How to tackle this situation, for me, there are two simple and quickest ways to identify it;

  1. Go back to your childhood and try recall what all you were good at and what all you were dreaming about your future
  2. Take opinion from others about yourself

The third option is little tricky one, that is monitoring ourselves and identify how can we value add.

Here in this short clip, we have tried to identify the same, lets slowly and patiently go through with it. Hope it will help you to identify a new YOU!!

Sun-setting of Google + services

Today, someone told me that Google may close its Google + services soon. As a human we are born with curiosity nature, so the question was how to authenticate this news? The irony is, that I decided to check on Google about this. This is because we are so used to about Google, that when it comes to search anything, we right away ask from Google about it.

During search I found various versions of this news, the only thing common in all the pages, that YES it is going to shut down for all the consumers. Mostly the Album, photos, Google + pages, blogs will be affected by this.

As per https://smallbiztrends.com/2019/02/google-plus-shutting-down.html The Google+ API bug affected the accounts of 52.5 million Google Plus users, therefore this decision came into picture. On Google’s official Keyword blog, David Thacker, Vice President of Product Management for G Suite, explained the decision. Thacker said, “With the discovery of this new bug, we have decided to expedite the shut-down of all Google+ APIs; this will occur within the next 90 days. In addition, we have also decided to accelerate the sun-setting of consumer Google+ from August 2019 to April 2019.”

Good part is that your Google account, which is linked to services such as Gmail, YouTube and Maps, will continue to work, but your Google+ account, which was only used for the social network, will be deleted.

Since every coin has two faces, this decision too has, if we think a bit, we’ll realize that yes, the security is a big concern now and breaching it, may be a costly affair. You might have heard about “Google slapped with $5 billion fine for Android tactics”.

On the other hand, Google’s data centers have some running cost associated with it. If everyone will continue to utilize Google services for free, how will they be able to make profits. Well you may say that there are ads and paid campaigns etc, which helps Google to earn, I am fine with that, but have you ever thought, that what you are giving Google in return of using it’s services for free?

Think about Google speech recognition system or Google assistance, think about Google Lances, think about Google Maps, think about Google AI, think about Gmail, Think about YouTube, Think about TPUs performance, Think about Google Weather widgets, Think about your Android phones, Think about IOT, rather think about everything which you have used knowingly or unknowingly, you will surely learn that you were not using it’s services for free instead you are the one who made it what Google is today.

Empathy

During my tenure in public sector, I was trained over empathy. This is like sympathy but not exactly. Sympathy is a very common word and many time empathy as a synonyms is used instead of sympathy.

If we go by the definition, sympathy is feelings of pity and sorrow for someone else’s misfortune. Whereas empathy is the ability to understand and share the feelings of another, which is in other words putting ourselves in their shoes.

So why in call centers they focusing a lot over empathy? They are always calm and trying to convince us.

I strongly believe that call centers are focusing so much of empathy to make their representative to understand what exactly the person on the call is feeling while s/he is calling for support or help / assistance. Until and unless the representative will not understand the importance of caller’s time and criticality of issues, they will not be able to provide proper support. This may affect the brand value of the company in the market.

We can take an example of multinational company Ford, which is continuously taking about its upgraded support services for their vehicles. Similarly the online shopping site Flipkart, which now a well-known brand.

I think empathy is the key to success along with proving the right support. Sometimes having right knowledge, best support team may led to failure due to lack of empathy.

Think about it.

Cheers!!

Resume Writing

Resume writing is always a challenge especially for those who are either changing their profession or changing job after a long gap. There are two main challenges, what to show and how to show? In my case, I have to write a resume after 10 years, things and trends all are changed. So how to proceed then?

I had consulted many of my well-wishers and few of them were really great and took a step ahead for me, they have not only guided me about writing the resume but also shared few valuable trainings about how to write a better resume.

Two points, which I learnt from all these are, write your resume according to the opportunity and write precise instead of a biography. However that is not so easy. I still needed guidance and expert to understand these two types of resume.

As an exercise, I have opened the LinkedIn and closely read many of my mentor’s and colleague’s profiles. Few of the profiles were ideal for me and helped me learning, how to craft a meaningful resume, still all these work was very manual and took lots of effort and time. Luckily my friends and mentors are with me and they helped me to get it finalized.

Many job seekers might not get such kind of guidance, but now they should not be worried as LinkedIn has recently introduced the Resume Assistance with Microsoft Office 365. This is amazing and will be a boon for all job seekers. It is simple and quicker. It allows us to explore the LinkedIn profile in a proper way and get the resume crafted. It kind of giving power to everyone and boosting their confidence.
